Gum Treatment (Periodontal Treatment)- e.g. Scaling(cleaning), Root planning, Flap Surgery

Gum disease is a very destructive disease that attacks not just the gums (the gingiva), but also the bone support around each tooth. Many people have straight teeth, no history of tooth decay, and yet still lose their teeth! This can be attributed to the aggressiveness of gingivitis, and is just one of the many reasons why visiting the dentist on a regular basis is so important.

Getting Treatment

If you notice any of the following signs or symptoms you more than likely are experiencing gingivitis.

Scaling and root planning, use of mouthwash, periodontal surgery, bone grafting, tissue regeneration procedure if required

Scaling & Root Planning

Ultrasonic Treatment

Ultrasonic teeth cleaning is done in 1 to 2 sittings, this procedure removes stains, firm debris and calculus so it makes your teeth cleaner and also makes your gums healthier. The procedure is often followed by through polishing of your teeth.
The Procedure is more beneficial in the presence of subgingival calculus build up and pocket depths of more than 3mm and also in case of bone loss. This procedure is strongly recommended to halt the progress of gum disease, which is the leading cause of tooth loss.

Basic Cleaning

Soft (plaque) and hard build up (tartar, calculus) and stain on your teeth surfaces, above the gum will be removed prior to teeth polishing. This procedure is recommended to be done every six month.

Deep Cleaning

Calculus build up on root surfaces will be removed and root surfaces will be planned (scraped) clean and smooth.Sometimes we may have to anaesthetize the area to do deep curettage.

Flap surgeries-(Periodontal surgeries)(Gum surgeries)

When infection inside gums can’t be cleaned superficially and radiographic study also suggest poor periodontal health we may have to open up gums by giving incision and have to curette infection and have to suture them up after the infection removal. These are known as flap surgeries.

Procedure

The gum is gently separated from the tooth, creating a “flap” and access to the infected pocket. Deep deposits of plaque and tartar can then be removed. It also reduces the pocket and the areas where bacteria can grow. Little or no gum tissue is removed.
